Human remains have been discovered in the mountainous wilderness of southern California amid the search for the missing British actor Julian Sands.
The ‘24’ star, a mountaineer and hiker, went missing five months ago after embarking on a journey to Mount Baldy Peak located east of Los Angeles.
The heartbroken family of the actor, who was last seen on January 13, has released their first statement.
“We continue to hold Julian in our hearts with bright memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts, and as an original and collaborative performer,” the statement read.
Sands is known for his roles in hit movies like The Killing Fields, Leaving Las Vegas, and Warlock.
He is also adored for his roles in TV series like Smallville and 24.
While searching for the actor, his Volvo was discovered near Mount Baldy. But the harsh weather conditions delayed the search and even sparked fears of avalanches.
The actor’s family thanked the search teams for their tireless efforts. Julian’s brother, Nick Sands, told the Telegraph & Argus that Mount Baldy was his favorite spot in LA.
“He has not yet been declared missing, presumed dead, but I know in my heart that he has gone,” Nick said, according to LBC.
“However, sibling rivalry being what it is, it would be just like him to walk out of there and prove me wrong.”
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said that a pair of hikers found the remains near the area where Sands had gone missing.
The remains were reportedly taken to the coroner’s office for identification and to determine the cause of death.
