The police have discovered the body of a teenage girl who went missing more than a month ago.
On April 28, 18-year-old Merna Kasha from Sydney, Australia, vanished from a Fairfield Heights home without a trace.
For more than a month, the investigators were working around the clock in search of clues about the teenager’s whereabouts that could lead them to Merna.
On Saturday, however, NSW police confirmed that a decomposing body believed to belong to the missing teenager was found at the bottom of a Canley Heights creek bed just ten minutes from her last known location.
“Officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene, which has been forensically examined,” the authorities confirmed.
“The body is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be that of a woman reported missing from the Fairfield area.
“Detectives have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death, while a post-mortem examination will be conducted to confirm her identity and determine the cause of death.”
While awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination, the police have reportedly already informed the teen’s family about their discovery.
Following the devastating news, Merna’s grieving family received an outpour of support on social media with people paying their respects to the 18-year-old.
As of this writing, the cause of death is yet to be determined. The police have yet to confirm whether the death is being treated as suspicious or not.
