BREAKING: People TRAPPED As Plane Crashes Into LIVE Powerlines, Causing Widespread Power Outages In The Area


Rescue teams are underway for the people trapped in a plane that crashed into live power lines in a neighborhood in Maryland.

The crash caused widespread power outages in Gaithersburg where the small aircraft could be seen dangling from a power tower.

Pete Piringer, a spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed that there were two people on board but both were uninjured.

According to WUSA9, crews are working tor rescue the pilot and the passenger.

Officials said that the high-angle rescue mission could take several hours before the individuals are freed from the plane that was hanging 100ft in the air.

Rescue teams rushed to the scene around 5:40 pm on Sunday in the area of Goshen Road and Rothbury Drive.

In a statement, the FAA said that a single-engine Mooney M20J departed from Westchester County Airport in White Plains, New York and crashed in Geithersburg.

The aircraft remained stuck and because the transmission lines stayed alive, rescue efforts became even more complicated.

“Everything is still energized at this time,” Piringer said.

According to utility company Pepco, about 80,000 customers lost power in Montgomery County. Pepco also said that the plane came into contact with its aerial transmission lines.

A Pepco spokesman said: “The company is assessing damage and contingency opportunities to restore service to impacted customers.

“Pepco is working closely with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services and is awaiting clearance to the scene before crews can begin work to stabilize the electric infrastructure and begin restoring service.”

Montgomery County Department of Police also asked the public to avoid the area of the crash.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are still investigating the cause of the crash.
