Parents Slammed After Dyeing A Pigeon Pink For Their ‘Gender Reveal Party’

A pink-colored pigeon was rescued from Manhattan’s Madison Square Park after being abandoned by its owners.

According to the reports, the domestic king pigeon was likely used during a gender reveal party – hence its pink-dyed feathers – before being dumped after serving its purpose.

Fortunately, the bird, which was found in a poor condition and couldn’t fly, was rescued after it was found by a bird lover who took the animal to the Wild Bird Fund.

“Please never release domestic birds to the wild. Not for weddings, funerals, celebrations, art projects, anything. (We’d hope that ‘don’t dye them’ goes without saying, but…) They will starve or be preyed on,” the rescuers wrote in their post.

The group also revealed that the bird, whom they named Flamingo, was likely bought at a bird market and that it never flew before, meaning it had no chance of survival in the wild.

“I don’t think we’ve ever really had a pink pigeon come into the clinic, so we were all pretty surprised. We were honestly disgusted that someone would do this,” Wild Bird Fund’s Antonio Sanchez added.

While the exact reason why the previous owners of the bird bought the animal cannot be confirmed, it is believed that Flamingo was likely used in a gender reveal party.

“If you see an all-white pigeon in the wild, or any tame bird standing around looking lost, it needs your help. Please catch the bird and bring it to a pigeon rescue or animal sanctuary near you,” Wild Bird Fund added in a statement.

On Twitter, the organization added: “Pigeons come in many different colors, but pink isn’t one of them. This king pigeon was deliberately dyed and released. As a domestic bird unable to find food in the wild, fly well or escape predators, this poor kid had it bad enough before being dyed.”
