Louisiana-based Sheila and Clay Fletcher could face negligent homicide, manslaughter, and second-degree murder charges after being accused of contributing to the death of their 36-year-old daughter Lacey Ellen.

According to the reports, Lacey, who had Locked-in Syndrome – a neurological condition that results in paralysis of voluntary muscles and causes sufferers to lose their ability to move anything but their eyes – was found dead and in terrible conditions at her family home in Slaughter.

The police were allegedly called to the property on January 3. As Lacey’s parents insisted, they rang the emergency services when they noticed their daughter had stopped breathing.

When the authorities arrived at the scene, they were greeted by a horrible scene.

Lacey was found sitting on the couch in the living room partially naked. According to the reports, her body had begun to fuse into the couch, suggesting that she hadn’t been moved for a long time.

Furthermore, the young woman was covered in urine, feces, and bug bites. Investigators also discovered live bugs and rodent excrements in proximity.

“The scene was sickening. I’ve seen some horrible things in my life but nothing like this,” Dr. Ewell Dewitt Bickham III, the East Feliciana Parish Coroner, told DailyMail.com.

“It’s unconscionable, something you make horror movies about.”

Bickham added that the smell in the living room where the body was found was so bad “it would almost run you out of the house.”

“The parents were in the kitchen. They did not have an explanation,” the coroner, who immediately called the detectives and later ruled Lacey’s death a homicide, explained.

Following the grim discovery, Shelia and Clay Fletcher’s lawyer, Steven Moore, issued the following statement:

“They don’t want to relive the pain of losing a child through the media. They have been through a lot of heartache over the years. Anyone who had lost a child knows what it’s like.”

It has since come to light that the parents weren’t taken into custody. A 12-head jury will now decide whether they will be charged with second-degree murder, negligent homicide, or manslaughter.
