Stanley Wilson Jr. was a former Detroit Lions defensive-back who died earlier this month after an incident at a mental hospital, TMZ reported.

The tragic news comes less than a year after the footballer got himself in legal trouble for breaking into a Hollywood Hills mansion.

According to the reports, the former athlete moved and damaged items inside the mansion on one occasion. During the second incident, he allegedly took a bath in the fountain outside the property.

Following the two incidents that took place on separate occasions, Wilson was charged with second-degree burglary and vandalism.

This February, while awaiting his trial, the 40-year-old was moved to a mental facility after being deemed unfit to stand trial.

Previously, in 2016, the man was shot by a homeowner and arrested after trying to break into their home naked.

In 2017, Wilson was once again apprehended on similar grounds following a naked break-in at another location.

Prior to his mental health decline, Wilson played three seasons for the Lions after the 2005 NFL Draft. He played a total of 32 games and recorded 89 tackles, 64 of which were solo.

His career in football, however, came to an abrupt end after he ruptured his Achilles tendon in a 2008 exhibition match against New England.

Prior to getting drafted by the Lions, Wilson was known as a college football star at Stanford.

The footballer was suspended in 1985, and later in 1987, for drug offenses. Following his third drug offense on Super Bowl eve in 1989, when he was caught high on cocaine, Wilson Sr never played in the league again.
