Thousands of people flocked to Buckingham Palace after the news broke of the Queen’s death.

Her Majesty’s loyal public gathered outside Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, and Balmoral Castle as they paid tributes to the Queen.

The Queen’s children and grandchildren traveled to be with her after doctors previously said that they were ‘concerned’ about her health.

When the Union flag atop Buckingham Palace was lowered, people who knew what the symbolic gesture meant gasped.

The heartbreaking news of the Queen’s death was officially announced, leaving people in the crowd weeping as others gave a rendition of God Save The Queen.

Members of the Queen’s household came out and placed a notice of Her Majesty’s passing on the Buckingham Palace gates.

Royal fan Callum Kendal, 23, arrived with flowers and said: “‘I’m shell shocked. The Queen has been there throughout my lifetime, that she’s no longer with us leaves me with a real sick feeling in my gut.

“I heard the news that she’d gone at work and so I felt I had to head to Buckingham Palace and pay my respects and leave these flowers as a symbol of what she meant to me and the whole country.

John Loughrey, 67, said in tears: “I can’t believe the news. I’m devastated. I didn’t think she was going to die today, I knew she was ill but I hoped she would survive a few more months.

“She deteriorated when her husband Prince Philip passed away. They were soul mates. They were like swans, together forever. I met her twice and I thought she was marvelous. The news hasn’t really sunk in.

“I’m going to miss her so much.”
