Following her daughter’s tragic passing, Kimberly, who works as a journalist at Uvalde Leader-News, pleaded with her boss, Craig Garnett, to allow her to use two pictures of her daughter in her obituary.

Responding, Garnett told the grieving mother she could “have a full page” to honor the memory of her beloved daughter.

Kimberly was previously spotted breaking into tears outside Robb Elementary School together with her sheriff’s deputy husband Felix Rubio.

As the parents told the reporters, Lexi was “kind, sweet, and appreciated life. She was going to be an all-star in softball and had a bright future, whether it’s sports or academic. Please let the world know we miss our baby.”

Meanwhile, Felix, who expressed a concern that some of his colleagues might stand up to him because he is an advocate of gun law reform, asked for his daughter to be remembered as more than just a number.

“All I can hope is that she’s just not a number. This is enough. No one else needs to go through this. We never needed to go through this, but we are,” he told CNN while fighting back tears.

Later, the couple also spoke to ABC News and explained they rejected the opportunity for a meeting with Governor Greg Abbott saying Lexi didn’t even like him.

They also called for a change in gun laws saying: “There’s no reason for just an average citizen to have these types of weapons. What for? What do you need them for? Is it worth my kid? These kids?”

Since the horrific mass shooting, Kimberly has posted a series of tributes to Lexi to make sure she is remembered for being a good daughter and an outstanding student.

“My beautiful, smart, Alexandria Aniyah Rubio was recognized today for All-A honor roll. She also received the good citizen award. We told her we loved her and would pick her up after school. We had no idea this was goodbye,” she wrote in one post.

In another, she added: “My sweet Lexi. Love of my life. Keeper of my soul. I carried you inside me. I’m you. You are me. I want to be with you. Now. Not later.”

Our hearts go out to the families of the victims of the shooting.
