On Tuesday afternoon, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos shot and killed 19 children and two teachers after storming Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, with his AR-15-style rifle.

Following the shooting, during which the gunman was killed by the police, Ramos’ mother, Adriana Reyes, spoke out and said she was “surprised” because she didn’t think her son was a violent person.

A day after the shooting, San Antonio-based Reyes was allegedly spotted breaking into tears at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

The sobbing woman was spotted by community leader Fatima Abraham who approached her and found out that she was the mother of Salvador.

“I simply told her that we were with her, that not everyone here was against her,” Abraham recalled in an interview with the Texas Tribune.

Defending the mother from scrutiny by the public, Abraham suggested people should “pray instead of criticizing or attacking.”

“Turning into hate and resentment is not good for humanity,” she added.

Reyes previously told DailyMail.com that her son wasn’t a violent person and that he mostly kept to himself because he didn’t have lots of friends.

“My son wasn’t a violent person. I’m surprised by what he did. I pray for those families. I’m praying for all of those innocent children, yes I am. They [children] had no part in this,” she said.

Dismissing allegations that she had a turbulent relationship with her son and that their “problems” were the reason why he moved out and went to live with his grandmother, she added:

“I had a good relationship with him. He kept to himself; he didn’t have many friends.”
