A mother was killed in a horrific car crash while spending the Mother’s Day weekend together with her young daughter.

41-year-old Jodie Russell from Australia was driving from Tinana to Brisbane on Friday afternoon when a tow truck collided with her vehicle on the highway.

The doting mom was declared dead on the scene. Her daughter Matilda, also known as Tilly, suffered minor injuries and is expected to recover from the collision.

“There was never a stronger connection between a mother and her daughter than the one Jodie shared with Tilly,” Matilda’s dad, Chris Paterson, said in a tribute to the doting mom.

“Jodie was so empathetic and understanding with everyone around her.”

Family friend Jo Howie has since launched a GoFundMe page to help the struggling family with the medical and funeral bills and to support Tilly and her father.

“We all suddenly lost the most amazing human being, a mother, a sister, a daughter, Aunty and best friend to many. Jodie was driving to Brisbane with her daughter Matilda (Tilly) for a Mother’s Day weekend but sadly never made it due to a car accident,” the page reads.

“Unfortunately as a result Jodie lost her life in this horrible tragedy. Tilly suffered minor injuries and is currently in hospital recovering. While we are so very grateful to have Tilly safe and well, this tragedy has left her without her mum and hero.

“The Russell family and close friends are seeking your support to assist them through the financial strain and hardship this Tragedy has had on the family, Tilly and her father Chris. We would love to reach the target however any support big or small is appreciated.”

Meanwhile, the call operator’s family issued a heartbreaking statement in which they said Jodie will be “deeply missed” by her loved ones because she had a heart of gold.

“She has left behind treasured memories that we will always hold,” her loved ones expressed.

Paying a tribute to the loving mom were also her close friends who issued a joint statement saying life won’t be the same again after the world had lost Jodie’s “infectious laugh” and her “ability to make time for everyone.”

“The love you showed for your friends and family was only ever outweighed by the adoration and devotion you gave to your daughter, Tilly. Your loving presence will endure forever in our hearts and souls,” they said.
