The mother of the orphaned boy who was found bloodied after the Highland Park massacre has been laid to rest.
2-year-old Aiden McCarthy was rescued by strangers after his parents, Kevin and Irina McCarthy, were shot dead by 21-year-old Robert ‘Bobby’ Crimo III while the family was watching the Fourth of July parade in Highland Park.
Since his horrific ordeal, the young boy has been reunited with his family, and now, his mother was laid to rest at Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home in Wilmette, Illinois.
Gathering at the funeral home for the tear-jerking ceremony were Kevin and Irina’s friends and relatives who were seen breaking into tears while embracing each other.
Addressing the mourners was the couple’s family friend, Vic Lichtenberg, who recalled Irian as a woman with a big heart and an excellent mother.
“Aiden will be cared for by all of us. He will have a family, a home and he’ll thrive and grow with us. Every moment, every time I look at that child, I see Irina,” he said.
Speaking out to pay a tribute to the young parents was also Irina’s longtime friend Brittany Chisum who said Irina and Kevin were obsessed with the young boy.
“I promise to always be there for Aiden,” she vowed.
“We, as your closest friends, are going to spend the rest of our lives honoring your memory so Aiden knows what amazing parents he had.”
As of this writing, information about Kevin’s funeral is yet to be made available.
The tragic news comes after people raised more than $3 million in a fundraiser for little Aiden.
