41-year-old Margaret Wade was convicted of neglect along with her partner after the tragic death of her daughter Lauren, who was dirty, skinny, and infested with lice when she died.

The couple were both sentenced to prison for six years and four months in 2019 but Wade just walked out of prison as a free woman, the Daily Record reported.

It was in 2015 when paramedics found Lauren ‘unresponsive’ in their home in Sighthill, Glasgow.

The girl was so thin her backbone and shoulders were visible through her skin, her baby teeth were decaying, and the palms of her hands and feet were black.

She had a severe lice infestation and was wearing a soiled diaper.

The two-year-old was rushed to a hospital where she was pronounced dead only 30 minutes later.

Wade and her partner Marie Sweeney pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of neglecting Lauren between June 2014 and March 2015.

At a preliminary hearing on Friday, the representative of the Crown – Selena Brown – stated the fatal accident inquiry could last five weeks.

“This can be reduced a significant amount with agreement on background. There are 22 witnesses at the moment.”

Darren Fleming, representing the mother, was asked by sheriff principal Craig Turnbull if she will appear.

“She doesn’t wish to, she was released on parole at the start of March after a lengthy hearing,” he responded.

Lee Doyle, representing Sweeney, said: “Myself and the agents for Miss Wade have applied for legal aid.

“The start date does not place difficulty on me and this is a case I will instruct counsel in. My client is still in custody and Miss Wade isn’t.”

He continued: “Both have done three-and-a-half years and Miss Wade was released last month – my client is due for parole in October.

“I imagine she would want to participate and her what’s been said.”
