At least six were injured and another one killed after two gunmen opened fire on a group of people in Baltimore.
The mass shooting took place at the Park Heights and Shirley avenues intersection in Central Park Heights, Northwest Baltimore, just after 12:20 pm on Wednesday.
According to the reports, a 2016 Lexus pulled up at the intersection before two men exited the vehicle and opened fire on a group of people who were minding their business.
“The brazenness of these offenders to pull up, get out of a car and then open fire on a group of people minding their own business, it’s unconscionable,” Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said.
As the police chief suggested, the gunmen were firing “indiscriminately” at the people at the intersection.
“What’s as unconscionable as that is people who know who was in that car and don’t say anything and don’t help,” he added.
Following the shocking incident, the suspects fled the scene in a silver 2016 Lexus. As of this writing, they remain at large.
Meanwhile, five victims were treated for injuries at Sinai Hospital. Another two received treatment for shock trauma. One person died in the shooting, the authorities confirmed.
With the manhunt for the suspects in full motion, Harrison urged people with information about the gunmen to come forward and help with the investigation.
“What we need to know right now is if there is anyone who saw, heard or knows anything about this shooting, about the silver Lexus, about the individuals who were in at that Lexus. Even if they were your own family members, we need to know,” the commissioner said.
The names of the victims and their ages have not yet been released. A local who allegedly knows the victims, however, has since spoken out and suggested he doesn’t believe they were the shooters’ intended target.
“I know those guys and the guys that were shot, the ones she was explaining, to me, are not violent. I know they aren’t into shooting. So a lot could be they’re shooting up an area looking for one,” Keith Owns said.
