The man whose wife was killed in a horror crash on her wedding night has spoken out after being discharged from the hospital.
Aric and Samantha Hutchinson were leaving their wedding venue in Folly Beach, California, on April 28 when 25-year-old Jamie Lee Komoroski plowed into their golf cart at high speed while driving under the influence of alcohol.
Unfortunately, Sam succumbed to her injuries while her husband and two other wedding guests were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Aric has since been discharged from the hospital to continue his recovery from home. Upon waking up, he was also told the tragic news of his wife’s passing.
On Sunday, Aric and Sam’s families held a tear-jerking memorial for the 36-year-old woman during which her husband was seen tearing up while sitting in a wheelchair.
“She would’ve loved it. This is Sam, she’s a beach girl, through and through,” Aric told WSOC in a tribute to his late wife.
“We do walk here almost every morning, and this is her send off for sure. She’s up there smiling for sure.”
The emotional man continued: “I’m feeling pretty good. My body’s getting back to where I can manage.
“It’s a little overwhelming, they’re sincere, genuine, good-hearted people that are just reaching out that felt a reason to, or somehow they were touched by Sam. It just means the world. She left that impact.”
Besides her family, hundreds of Sam’s friends, relatives, and other well-wishers gathered at the beach to pay her a tribute.
“I was handed Aric’s wedding ring in a plastic bag at the hospital, five hours after Sam placed it on his finger and they read each other their vows,” Aric’s mom, Annette, previously said.
“Aric has lost the love of his life. We are missing Sam more than anything, she was everything to my son and changed him for the better. She could light up a room with her presence and had an ease about her. They shared many hopes and dreams for their future including children and building a house.”
The memorial comes as Aric and Sam’s family are preparing for the funeral. As Sam’s mother Lisa explained, her daughter’s remains will likely be brought back to the beach if she is cremated because “that’s where she wants to be.”
Our thoughts are with Sam’s loved ones during this challenging time.
