Samantha Miller, 34, and Aric Hutchinson, 36, were seen smiling from ear to ear during their wedding reception in Folly Beach, South Carolina, last month.

Just moments after their wedding, the couple left the venue in a golf cart with two other guests. That’s when 25-year-old drunk driver Jamie Komoroski crashed into the newlyweds and sent their vehicle flying one hundred yards before it came to a stop.

Hutchinson was later rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, the medics were unable to save his wife who got to enjoy her status as married for just a few hours.

Now, the young man has woken up from a coma only to learn that his wife was killed in the crash and that he now has the “unimaginable” task of planning her funeral.

“She could light up a room with her presence and had an ease about her. They shared many hopes and dreams for their future including children and building a house,” Annette, Aric’s mom, said as she revealed the entire family is “missing Sam more than anything.”

In the update, the mother also revealed that her son suffered “two broken legs, one which had to be surgically repaired. Broken bones in his face which also had to be surgically repaired. Broken vertebraes in his back, brain bleeds, and numerous cuts with stitches.”

While Hutchinson has since been discharged from the hospital and allowed to continue his recovery at home, he now faces the horrifying task of planning his wife’s funeral together with Sam’s family.

This comes as a GoFundMe page started with the intention to raise money for funeral and medical expenses racked up over $700,000.

Ben Garrett, Aric’s brother-in-law, was also in the golf cart at the time of the incident. He remains hospitalized in the burn unit after suffering severe open wounds and road rash.

“He will need another skin graft back home in Utah at some point. He needs to be able to put weight on his legs, and his wounds to start healing before he can return home,” the family shared.

The fourth passenger, Hutchinson’s nephew Brogan, only suffered minor injuries and is recovering from the traumatic experience at home.
