A 76-year-old man who killed his terminally ill wife after she ‘cried and begged’ him to do it has been released from prison.
It was in December 2021 when David Hunter ended the life of his wife Janice, 74, at their home in Cyprus.
Janice had been battling a rare type of blood cancer and could no longer take care of herself in the weeks leading up to her demise.
As her condition got worse, Janice begged her husband to kill her. David only agreed after she became desperate to end her suffering.
When defense lawyer Ritsa Pekri asked David about his wife’s final days, he said: “She was crying, crying, crying, begging, begging, begging.
“She wasn’t taking any care of herself. For the last two or three weeks she could not move her arms and had trouble with her legs, she couldn’t balance.”
David continued: “She was only eating soup, she couldn’t hold anything down. She lost a lot of weight. She lost so much weight that there was no flesh to put her injections in.”
The grieving husband also opened up about their ‘perfect’ 52-year-old marriage before he shared their final moments together.
“For five or six weeks before she died she was asking me to help her. She was asking me more every day,” he expressed.
“In the last week she was crying and begging me. Every day she asked me a bit more intensely to do it.”
According to the Independent, David was sentenced to two years behind bars but was released after spending 19 years in jail.
Paphos District Court heard that his motive was to ‘liberate his wife from all that she was going through due to her health conditions’ and that he only agreed to do so after her desperate pleas.
The court also heard how he tried to end his own life but medics who arrived at the scene were able to revive him.

Bless his Heart. I think this should be allowed. Someone needs to proof read. This says he was in jail 19 yrs.
Think they meant 19 months
So pleased hes been released he obviously adored her
I do believe he done no wrong, terminally ill and much suffering people with no quality of life should be allowed to chose to end their life, it’s only human compassion to do so, I would wish the same ending for myself if it would come to end my life due to suffering and no quality of life..
Wondering why Hospice wasn’t involved??
He was in cyprus, they may not exist out there…
He had done nothing wrong . Drs should have been more caring and compassionate towards his wife and listened to her complaints and helped her out to end her suffering . Shame on the medical community . We put animals to sleep when they are in severe pain but not human life ❤️
I believe that if someone is terminal and under the guidance of a medical professional it should be legal to end your life. Why is ok to watch and make someone suffer.
If a dog was suffering and you took it to a vet they would recommend euthanasia. It should be no different for humans suffering.
I believe he acted in his wife’s best interest and he will live for the rest of his life thinking people don’t agree what he did was right. I do. I salute him.
May your wife rest in eternal pain-free peace. Much love ❤
You did nothing wrong.
That is what your wife wanted
Death with dignity is something the USA should really respect of patients. If a person is becoming so dependent on another and living in constant pain, feels like a burden, constantly suffering, wanting to die, why shouldn’t they be allowed to? We take our beloved fur babies to the vet and they get euthanized to end their pain and suffering? How is this any different? The woman’s doctors failed her. They could have easily arranged a medically induced passing while she was hospitalized. Truly tragic her loving husband was imprisoned, for following her wishes.
He did everything she asked him to do. That’s how you know they had a loving marriage. You would not let a dog suffer that way. So don’t let humans have to suffer. I hope he gets closure now for all what he was put through. And I’m sure is wife will want him to be happy and get on with his life. R I P to his wife . And just remember you have all your happy memory’s of your wife. To look back on the .x
