Chandler Halderson reportedly murdered both his parents, Bart Halderson, 50, and Krista Halderson, 53, in July last year after his father discovered that he had been lying about work and college, Dane County Assistant District Attorney William Brown suggested.

Halderson lied about attending Madison college and working at an insurance company. He also told them that he was on the verge of getting a job at Space X, Channel3000 reported.

According to Law & Crime, the first hours of the trial were marked by horrific revelations, including allegations that the 23-year-old used scissors and saw to dismember his parents’ bodies before disposing of their remains in the woods and burning their heads.

Days later, Halderson reported them missing and claimed that they did not return from their weekend trip.

Attorney Brown told jurors that ashes obtained from the fireplace at the family’s home contained human remains, including fragments of human skills and knee and facial bones.

“He had burned his parents’ heads in the fireplace,” Brown said.

But attorney Catherine Dorl, who described Halderson as a ‘normal kid’ who liked to spend time with his girlfriend and ‘lived peacefully’ with his parents, said: “Chandler Halderson did not murder his parents.”

She also said that prosecutors will not be able to prove that Halderson was the one who killed his parents.

“The evidence will show you that there is a gap of evidence when it comes to that time frame,” Dorl said.

“Your job is to listen to this evidence as jurors, listen to the evidence from the perspective of a juror, not from the perspective of a story corroborator.”

Halderson is being held at Dane County Jail with a bond set at $1 million.

The trial is expected to last up to four weeks, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
