A young man was sliced to pieces by helicopter blades in a horrific accident at an airport.
The grisly incident took place at a private airport in Spata, Greece, when a 21-year-old British man was exiting a Bell 407 helicopter together with three other tourists.
According to the reports, the man and his sister were on a private trip paid for by their parents. The victim and his sister have not yet been officially identified and their relation, if any, to the other two travelers remains unclear.
As of this writing, the accident remains under investigation and it has yet to be revealed why the man was allowed anywhere near the rotors or why the blades were still in motion when he was leaving the aircraft.
Local media reported that the paramedics were called to the scene at 6.20 pm on Monday. It is believed that they could do nothing because the man’s body was chopped to pieces by the blades.
“We are talking about a tragedy – an unprecedented tragedy that never should have happened,” a source told The Sun.
“The cause is being investigated but it remains unclear why this happened or was allowed to happen when rotor blades pose such an obvious danger.”
Since the tragic incident, it was also revealed that the young man’s parents followed him and his sister in another helicopter.
The pilot of the first helicopter allegedly called the parents’ pilot to warn him about what had transpired before the second group landed.
As a result of the warning, the pilot operating the helicopter carrying the victim’s parents chose to land at Athens International Airport instead.
While the identities of the family members involved in the horrific accident remain unknown, police sources suggested they were very wealthy, whereas locals said they had limousines waiting to pick them up following their landing at the private heliport.
