A man who killed at least five women and has been on death row for over two decades claimed ‘he had ineffective attorney’ after his appeal to review his sentence was denied by the US Supreme Court.
62-year-old Faryion Wardrip from Texas was convicted in the deaths of four women in a 16-month span.
According to reports, he killed Tina Kimbrew, 21, Debra Taylor, 25, Terry Sims, 20, Ellen Bau, 21, and Toni Gibbs, 23.
The court’s decision to deny reviewing the serial killer’s appeal was the latest in a seemingly endless series of legal maneuvers.
In September last year, the US Fifth Circuit court of Appeals overturned a lower court’s ruling that granted a rehearing on the capital punishment sentence.
Wardrip had petitioned for the rehearing, claiming that his good condition wasn’t given proper consideration.
The Fifth Circuit rejected his allegation but admitted both it and the lower court didn’t address one part of his argument.
Thus, he is entitled for the issue to be settled by the lower court.
But instead of proceeding to the federal district court, his defense then took that case to the Supreme Court, which has rejected his appeal.
It was in December 1984 when Wardrip’s first victim, Terry Sims, was found lying in a pool of blood after she was assaulted and stabbed numerous times.
Authorities weren’t able to track the suspect at that time and little did they know that Sim’s death would be the first in the series of murders that went undiscovered for many years.
Wardrip was finally arrested in February 1999. He later confessed to killing sims, Gibbs and Blau before admitting to authorities that he also killed Taylor.
