An NRL star had a near-death experience after catching his fiancée cheating on him with his former teammate.
29-year-old Michael Lichaa is an international athlete and a National Rugby League star who previously played for the likes of Bulldogs and Sharks.
On Friday, the rugby star was acquitted of his domestic violence charges stemming from an incident involving his cheating fiancée, Kara Childerhouse, and his former teammate, Adam Elliott.
As the court heard, Lichaa lost 2.5 liters of blood and nearly died from his cuts after punching a glass window in anger when he saw his ex-partner performing oral s*x on Elliott.
According to the young man, he woke up one morning only to see his partner cheating on him with the rugby player in the backyard of his home.
“I’m going to f–king kill her,” Lichaa allegedly yelled in a blinding rage before slamming his fist through the window of his front door and severely cutting his arm in the process.
Following the incident, neighbors called for an ambulance just in time to save the young man’s life.
Meanwhile, Childerhouse accused her ex-fiancé of assaulting her and pressed charges.
On Friday, however, the 29-year-old was acquitted after his former partner refused to testify against him.
According to the reports, Childerhouse failed to show up at the court on Thursday to finish her testimony. She also refused to come to the courthouse even after she was subpoenaed and after the police came looking for her at her home.
Insisting that she no longer wanted to testify because she had found out that she was pregnant, Childerhouse told the court that she was worried about the effects of stress on her baby.
Her previous statements and testimony have since been thrown out, leaving the prosecution with no foundation for their case.
Meanwhile, the judge branded Lichaa’s testimony as “genuine” and “insightful.”
“I couldn’t get the image of my fiancée performing oral sex on my best friend out of my mind,” Lichaa said as he appeared in court.
He also admitted that the cheating left him shattered and that he sought counseling after the incident in an attempt to take responsibility for his actions.
“I’m glad the truth finally came out; I was very confident in the truth the whole time,” he added in an interview with NCA NewsWire following his acquittal.
“But I just want to put it all behind me now and move on with my life and happy days ahead.”
