A man from Louisiana, who was reportedly accused of assaulting two 14-year-old twin girls, has now been freed from jail.
The suspect was identified as Vincent Simmons who turns 70 on Thursday. He was given the right to walk out free from prison after spending a total of 44 years behind bars.
The judge leading the case spoke about how the accused never had a fair trial in the year 1977 and that’s when he was accused of carrying out aggravated r*pe against two underage victims that were 14 years old at that time.
Simmons has reportedly fought for a number of years, trying to clear his name, at least 16 times with great attempts of putting forward evidence that was never seen at the start of the trial.
At that time, an 11 member jury convicted him for r*pe.
Sources claim that it is not clearly revealed anywhere how Simmons was even a suspect in that particular case, adding how there appears to be no form of physical evidence that could possibly lead the jury into making such a strong conviction.
The twin girls, who are now 59 years old, were identified as Sharon and Karen Sanders. They both reportedly told the police that a black suspect r*ped them and they pointed out towards Simmons in a police line-up.
Among the new set of evidence that had been presented by the court that recently freed Simmons, there was a medical report that clearly showed how one of the twin girls was a v*rgin. However, it failed to reveal which one of the victims that was.
This medical report was released two weeks after the incident had taken place. In addition to that, the doctor who carried out the examination also revealed how there were no signs of s*xual assault on either one of the two twin sisters.
Despite his release, the twins stand by their claims that Simmons is guilty of assaulting them.
