Malaysia has banned one of Marvel’s latest movies over fears that it would contribute to the spread of LGBT ideas across the nation.

While western movies have long had a strong presence in Malaysia, the government now made the decision to ban Thor: Love and Thunder in fear that the “gay elements” introduced in the movie would negatively influence the people.

As the officials argued, there are two specific parts in the movie that go against the country’s mission to “curb LGBT content.”

The first controversial moment revolves around Korg the Kronan warrior who told Valkyrie that he was conceived by two males and that he therefore has two fathers. The movie explains how Kronan males conceive offspring by holding hands over lava pits.

The second instance that the Malaysian government found problematic takes place when Valkyrie shows interest in another female, a concubine of Zeus.

According to the reports, Malaysia’s Film Censorship Board originally made a request to Disney and Pixar to cut the ‘problematic’ scenes out of the movie.

After the request was rejected, however, officials imposed a total ban on the movie.

“[The movie] touched on LGBT but we see right now there are many films with LGBT elements that slip past the censorship,” Zahidi Zainul Abidin, the Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia, said.

He went on to claim that the government and he are monitoring social media platforms and film distributors to ensure that those spreading LGBT content will be caught and face “severe action.”

“I am frustrated because the outside world was the one promoting LGBT,” Abidin added.

The deputy minister also warned citizens to stay “vigilant” as he accused movie producers of being “less blatant” when it comes to ‘promoting’ LGBT lifestyle and ideas.
