Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins was taken hostage by three inmates and stabbed in prison.
The 46-year-old is currently 10 years into his 29-year jail sentence at HMP Wakefield in West Yorkshire. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being abducted and attacked by fellow prisoners.
A spokesperson for the Prison Service said: “Police are investigating an incident which took place on Saturday at HMP Wakefield. We are unable to comment further while the police investigate.”
It was in December 2013 when the former singer was convicted after admitting 13 s*x offenses. Police referred to him as a ‘committed, organized ped*ph*le’ while the judge said it ‘plunged into new depths of depravity.’
Before he was convicted, the disgraced singer had the attention of Welsh authorities after they received reports for numerous s*xual and drug-based offences between 2008 and 2012.
One of his ex-girlfriends, Joanne Mjadzelics, was one of the six people who filed a report against him. An Australian woman and parents of a 2-year-old in Los Angeles accused Watkins of assault.
In 2012, Watkins was arrested at his home in Pontypridd, where computers, storage devices and mobile phones were seized.
According to the Daily Mail, the inmates who took the 46-year-old hostage on Saturday were believed to be ‘heavy duty.’
Sources also claimed that the singer has had a ‘target on his back’ and the prisoners had been waiting for a day with less officers were around.
“Watkins is obviously unpopular because of who he is – and has been walking around with a huge target on his back,” the source said.
“They got him on a Saturday, which is generally quieter with less staff on and it seems to have been planned.
“People heard that he was in a bad way when he came out but will probably survive. He was taken to Leeds and was still in hospital.”
