One of the people whose bodies were found in Lake Mead after water levels dropped due to drought has been identified.
Since May 1, after the levels in the largest water reservoir in the States began receding rapidly, at least five sets of bodies were discovered.
One of the bodies has since been examined and linked to 42-year-old Las Vegas man Thomas Erndt who drowned in the lake back on August 2, 2002.
As an old Las Vegas Review-Journal post reveals, the father-of-two went missing after jumping off a boat and never reemerging.
“I think of you so often as you always looked out for me and I was always welcome in your home. You painted my car… picked me up when I was stranded 150 miles away… treated me just like a sister… you made me laugh so hard,” Tina Tolocko, the man’s sister-in-law, previously wrote in an obituary.
“You loved your family and loved your kids. A very gentle soul whom I was so lucky to know. Then always and forever.”
Now, two decades later, the tragic story of the man’s disappearance has finally come to an end as Clark County officials confirmed that “investigative information, DNA analysis, and reports from the original incident” helped them conclude that one of the bodies found in the lake belongs to Erndt.
“The cause and manner of Mr. Erndt’s death is undetermined,” spokesperson Dan Kulin added while confirming it is believed the man died from drowning.
The news comes after five sets of human remains were discovered in the reservoir after the water levels dropped to just 27 percent of the lake’s capacity.
