On Tuesday afternoon, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos barricaded himself inside Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, and killed 19 young students and 2 teachers with the R-15-style semi-automatic rifle he had bought just days after turning 18.

Speaking out was also KUWTK star Kim Kardashian who insisted we need to put “politics aside” and take action to protect the children.

While the socialite admitted she is not against guns or gun ownership, she claimed a lot more could be done to prevent weapons from getting into the wrong hands.

“Yesterday, 19 children were murdered by an 18 year old, and I find myself heartbroken, disgusted and furious about how little has been done by law makers to enact gun laws that protect our children,” Kim wrote in her lengthy Instagram statement.

“There is no excuse and no justification for what happened yesterday, the current laws in our country around gun control are not protecting our children. We have to push law makers to enact laws that are fitting in today’s world.”

Kardashian went on to recall past mass shootings as she insisted semi-automatic weapons and assault weapons should be banned from the hands of civilians because they’re “not a self-defense tool” and are “designed to kill.”

She further suggested that the age to legally own a firearm should be increased from 18 to 21 since many mass shooters in recent years were young people.

“There are of course people over 21 who buy guns to cause harm, and other mass shootings in recent years have been carried out by people over 21, but if we increase legal age to purchase, coupled with a ban on assault weapons, we can without a doubt reduce the number of senseless tragedies and save children’s lives,” she went on.

“We can’t accept this as normal anymore. It’s not normal for a teenager to kill children. It’s not normal for our kids to be practicing active shooter drills in schools.”

Concluding her post, Kim suggested leaders need to “come together” immediately and take action to “put children first.”
