A terrifying van crash has left four people dead and up to eight others critically injured after the driver reportedly fell asleep behind the wheel.
According to local media outlets, the van crash took place in New Jersey today along the Interstate Parkway.
It was about 1:30 am in the morning when the shuttle van was seen transporting the passengers who were all described to be factory workers from New York that were on their way back home.
The four individuals that died were said to have succumbed to their wounds that resulted due to severe trauma. Meanwhile, the other eight are still battling for their life after being transported to a nearby hospital, sources explained.
One survivor had been airlifted from the ground after rescue officials found his condition to be extremely severe, while the others were seen being transported by ambulances on the ground.
Firefighters were also seen present at the site of the tragedy as they battled the blaze that had ensued and tried to remove the victims from the vehicle.
Witnesses described how the vehicle had been turned to one side.
At the moment, investigations into the horrifying crash are still taking place as loved ones are mourning the loss of the victims that passed away in the heartbreaking tragedy.
Right now, it’s not known if the driver was among those killed or not in the accident, sources explained.
After the early morning crash involving the passenger van, the roadway is still closed for now. Meanwhile, updates are being provided about the incident to the public.
It was also mentioned how the vehicle’s roof had been ripped off while the backside windows were shattered into pieces, right after the rescue efforts were done.
