A renowned Russian journalist who opposed Putin has been killed in a Russian bombing in Kyiv.
Oksana Baulina, who is originally from Russia, previously worked for the Anti-Corruption Foundation that was set up by Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
Once the organization was placed on the list of extremists, Oksana was forced to flee her country to avoid getting imprisoned or worse.
After getting settled in Kyiv, Ukraine, the video journalist joined The Insider and worked as a correspondent for several years until her death on Wednesday.
According to the reports, the dedicated journalist died during Russian shelling in Podil, Kyiv, while sheltering together with several civilians.
During the shelling of the residential neighborhood, Oksana and at least one of the civilians she was with have lost their lives. An additional two civilians were wounded.
The journalist’s unfortunate passing comes less than a day after she took a jab at Vladimir Putin as she mocked his golden toilet roll holder on social media.
Previously, Oksana also opened up about her emotions and revealed she had nothing but hate left for the Russian authorities.
“You often get a call from friends from Kiev, Kharkov and so on – with the words: ‘I thought it was my last day.’ and so resolutely, without emotion. I have no tears and no words left either. Nothing but a fierce HATE,” she previously wrote.
Following the Wednesday incident, The Insider extended their condolences to Oksana’s family and friends while vowing to continue covering the war in Ukraine.
“We will continue to cover the war in Ukraine, including such Russian war crimes as indiscriminate shelling of residential areas where civilians and journalists are killed,” the site defiantly announced.
