Johnny Depp has received full support from an international group fighting violence against women.
Mission NGO is a non-profit women’s abuse group that openly expressed support for the Pirates of the Caribbean star as his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard has entered its final stage.
Headed by Valeria Altobelli, the former Miss Italy, the support network for women and children issued a statement in which they expressed “compassion for Johnny Depp.”
“In deep respect of the victims of domestic abuses that we have to affirm for intellectual honesty are, generally, WOMEN, we feel to express, as women, as mothers, as free thinkers, our compassions for Johnny Depp in this bad page of his personal history,” the group wrote in an official statement.
The announcement made by an unexpected ally comes amid an ever-increasing chorus of support for the Hollywood A-lister and evidence – including a videotape – suggesting Depp was physically abused by Heard who admitted to hitting him despite alleging, for years, that she was the victim in their forsaken relationship.
As a result of his wife’s allegations – which were spewed onto the public thanks to her 2018 op-ed for The Washington Post – Depp’s acting career suffered a major downfall including the actor being kicked from the sixth Pirates of the Caribbean movie and losing $22.5 million in the process, hence the lawsuit.
Speaking of the blockbuster trial that made headlines around the world, Altobelli added that the group doesn’t have compassion for the ‘the star’ but for the human he is.
“Our mission is to educate men and women, with no gender differences, to keep talking and living in the values of love, mutual comprehension and sensitivity in order to prevent all kinds of violence, against women, against men, against children,” she said.
“As women, we have compassion and we feel empathy not for THE star, THE talent, THE actor but for a man, a father, a worker, A HUMAN.”
The former miss added: “Mental Health is something we have to care about to live in a positive environment where women and men can love and respect each other without any kind of abuse and violence.”
Mission NGO’s statement comes after Depp testified he had never hit Heard. While several witnesses testified that the actor, as well as the actress, was using drugs and binge drinking, none of them ever saw Depp strike his ex-wife.
