Johnny Depp’s former friend and lover Ellen Barkin has testified in court and branded the actor as a controlling man.
The 68-year-old actress recalled how she met the Pirates of the Caribbean star back in 1990 and how the pair formed a strong friendship that would last for ten years.
While their relationship was initially strictly a “purely platonic friendship,” Barkin admitted it eventually became romantic. She then quickly asked the court to edit the record and change the word romantic to s*xual.
Recalling her relationship with Depp, the actress said they would see each other several times a week with him visiting her or her going to his place.
She went on to claim that the actor was drunk most of the time and that she saw him using drugs including marijuana and cocaine.
“He was drunk all the, most, a lot of the time,” she said as she admitted she was “always aware” of Depp’s drinking problems.
Asked about the frequency of the actor’s drug and drinking binges, she added: “I couldn’t even tell you. He was always drinking or smoking a joint.”
Barkin also took the opportunity to recall the time Depp allegedly threw a wine bottle across his hotel room during a fight with his friends.
“Mr Depp threw a wine bottle across the hotel room in one instance, in Las Vegas while shooting Fear and Loathing. A fight was going on, between Johnny Depp and his friends in the room, the assistant,” she said.
Barkin also claimed that their relationship eventually came to a “big goodbye” after the actor grew increasingly jealous and controlling.
“He’s just a jealous man, controlling, ‘where are you going, who are you going with. What did you do last night.’ I had a scratch on my back once that got him very, very angry because he insisted it came from having s*x with a person who wasn’t him,” she insisted.
