Jimmy Buffett’s cause of death has been revealed days after he passed away at the age of 76.

In an official statement posted on his website JimmyBuffett.com, it was revealed that he died at his Long Island home ‘surrounded by his family, friends, music, and dogs.’

“He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many,” it added.

It has been revealed that the legendary musician had been suffering from Merkel Cell Skin Cancer before he died.

According to the National Cancer Institute, the condition is a fast-spreading rare carcinoma that appears on skin that is always exposed to the skin.

Also called neuroendocrine carcinoma, Merkel cell carcinoma is second to melanoma in causing skin cancer-related deaths.

In 2022, signs of his declining condition became evident when he was rushed to a hospital.

In May and June this year, the singer revealed that he was ‘back in the hospital to address some issues that needed immediate attention.’

The heartbreaking news of Buffett’s passing was met with heartfelt tributes from big names including Elton John, Kenny Chesney, Paul McCartney, as well as US President Joe Biden and former President Bill Clinton.

Taking to Twitter, Biden wrote: “A poet of paradise, Jimmy Buffett was an American music icon who inspired generations to step back and find the joy in life and in one another.

“We had the honor to meet and get to know Jimmy over the years, and he was in life as he was performing on stage – full of goodwill and joy, using his gift to bring people together.”

McCartney also tweeted: “It seems that so many wonderful people are leaving this world, and now Jimmy Buffett is one of them. I’ve known Jimmy for some time and found him to be one of the kindest and most generous people.”
