NFL player Jeff Gladney has passed away at the age of 25.
The 25-year-old aspiring football player died in a car crash on Woodall Rodgers Freeway in Dallas, Texas, after the car he was in collided with another vehicle.
According to the preliminary reports, two fatalities, including Gladney, were reported.
While it is still not clear who caused the accident, the police have confirmed that one of the vehicles rammed into another as a result of speeding.
The speeding vehicle then reportedly slammed into a highway beam resulting in two fatalities. The passengers of the other vehicle were reportedly not injured.
As of this writing, it remains unclear whether the driver of the crashed vehicle was driving under influence. It is also unclear if Gladney, himself, was behind the wheel.
“We are asking prayers for the family and privacy at this most difficult time,” Brian Overstreet, the agent of the Arizona Cardinals cornerback, said in a statement after his death was announced.
Gladney kicked off his career by signing a deal with Minnesota Vikings in 2020 after attending Texas Christian University.
In 2021, the young man was arrested after a woman he was dating accused him of assaulting her during their fight in his car. After being found not guilty of felony assault charges back in March this year, Gladney went on to sign a 2-year deal with Arizona Cardinals.
Following the young man’s death, his old and new team paid the 25-year-old footballer a tribute.
“We are saddened by the tragic death of former Viking Jeff Gladney. Our hearts go out to his family and friends, as well as the Arizona Cardinals organization and Jeff’s current and former teammates and coaches who are mourning his life lost much too soon,” the Vikings wrote in a statement.
“We are devastated to learn of Jeff Gladney’s passing. Our hearts go out to his family, friends and all who are mourning this tremendous loss,” the Cardinals expressed.
Paying a tribute was also the NFL family. “The NFL family mourns the tragic loss of Jeff Gladney and we extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones,” they wrote in a tribute.
Our thoughts are with Jeff’s family and friends during these challenging times.
