A janitor has been arrested after he was caught living in a children’s museum together with his family.
41-year-old Wilbert Calhoun was arrested and charged after the police discovered he was living in Children’s Museum in Carson City, Nevada, alongside his wife and their five children
According to the reports, the police were alerted of activity at the museum after reports of an unsupervised toddler roaming the premises.
After arriving at the scene, the authorities questioned Calhoun’s daughter who allegedly told them her family had been living at the museum.
The 41-year-old janitor denied the claim.
Upon inspecting the museum, Carson City Sheriff’s Office came across sleeping bags, mattresses, and clothes among other indications that people were living in the building.
In a shocking twist, the police also found a stash of weapons including an AK-47, a short barrel rifle, handguns, a taser, and several gun suppressors.
A stash of marijuana was reportedly also found in a storage room close to the supplies.
As the police argued, the weapons and drugs could “easily be accessed by a wandering child.”
While the Board of Directors of the museum offered “sincere apologies” and promised to work hard “to make sure that nothing like this will ever happen again,” a former employee spoke out to CarsonNow and suggested the janitor and his family must have been living at the museum for quite some time.
“It would have been impossible not to know they were homeless and living there,” the employee, who claimed that Calhoun and his family were kicked out of their apartment last year, said.
According to the reports, the museum currently remains closed. Calhoun has since been charged with child neglect and endangerment, three counts of possession of a suppressor, and possession of a short barrel rifle.
