According to the reports, the young man hid in a bathroom at a mall for one hour before firing 24 rounds from his Sig Sauer 400M rifle.

It has come to light that Sapirman legally bought the rifle at a local store earlier this year.

While the 20-year-old didn’t have a criminal record, he was known to the police over two incidents including the time he tried to run away from home and the time he got into a fight at his school.

As of this writing, the gunman’s family maintains silence. They have, however, confirmed that Sapirman was evicted from his apartment this year.

The authorities have since also identified the bystander who was hailed as a hero after shooting dead the gunman before he could kill more people.

Elisjsha Dicken, 22, gunned down Sapirman just moments after the latter opened fire at the food court.

“His actions were nothing short of heroic. He engaged the gunman from quite a distance with a handgun and was very proficient,” said Greenwood Police Chief Jim Ison.

While Dicken allegedly doesn’t have any experience in law enforcement or military training, he not only managed to bring down the attacker but also helped evacuate the food court during the confrontation.

“He is a true American hero who saved countless lives during a horrific event that could have been so much worse if not for Eli’s courage, preparedness and willingness to protect others,” Guy Relford, Dicken’s attorney, expressed.
