Actor Idris Elba is being more vocal about the real reason why he no longer likes being referred to as a black actor.
The celeb certainly did not hold back with his starting claims, and even revealed how it can be hard for people to understand that acting is not based on race. It’s an art and should be treated like that.
Elba says he is at a point in his career now where he is clarifying the fact that he no longer wishes to be known as a black actor. For him, color or race should not matter and when people do go about calling him a black performer, he certainly does not mind stopping him.
“It’s wrong and I’ve made the same mistake about myself too. But not anymore”- the celeb went on to add. For him, there is no such thing as black or white. “We’re all equal on this playing field”- he continued.
The London-born star made all of these revelations recently during his interview. This is where he spoke about how putting labels like black or white would just restrict a performer or add them into a box that he’s got no interest in being inside.
“It’s wrong. I don’t understand why it’s happening”- he further elaborated with the hopes that things might change soon for the better.
The Luther star took to his account on Twitter to shed light on how people should not confuse the fact that he is doing this because he isn’t proud of his skin color. He reiterated how he is very happy and proud of being a black man with talent and this had nothing to do with it.
“There is not even one single soul on this planet that can question whether I am a proud Black man or not. I am and there are no doubts about it”- he reaffirmed in his post.
