JUST IN: Iconic Fashion Designer DIES Aged 93


Iconic fashion designer Mary Quant has passed away at the age of 93.

In a heartbreaking statement from her grieving family, they said that she ‘died peacefully at home in Surrey, UK this morning.’

Best known for her innovative designs, Quant pioneered the hot pants and mini skirt movement back in the ‘60s.

According to the Daily Mail, Quant “raised hemlines to audacious heights, pioneered sack dresses, and turned women’s trousers and tights into wardrobe staples as well as popularizing the bob haircut pioneered by her great friend Vidal Sassoon.”

Quant grew up in London where she studied illustration at Goldsmiths before she joined the fashion industry.

In the mid ‘50s, she and her two friends opened up a restaurant with a small boutique called Bazaar and sold own designs, which became a hit with fashion fanatics.

Tributes started to pour in after the news of her passing, commending her for her impressive work over the years.

One person said: “RIP Dame Mary Quant. A leader of fashion but also in female entrepreneurship- a visionary who was much more than a great haircut.”

Another wrote: “British fashion icon Mary Quant has passed away at the age of 93,” alongside some of Quant’s photos.

A third added: “The mother of the mini skirts is gone. Mary Quant revolutionized fashion in the 60s with her famous designs. She was 93!”

The iconic British Victoria & Albert Museum said: “It’s impossible to overstate Quant’s contribution to fashion. She represented the joyful freedom of 1960s fashion, and provided a new role model for young women.

“Fashion today owes so much to her trailblazing vision.”

Former Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman also took to Twitter and wrote: “RIP Dame Mary Quant. A leader of fashion but also in female entrepreneurship – a visionary who was much more than a great haircut.”
