A high school track star and aspiring athlete died suddenly after collapsing during practice.
18-year-old Hunter Palmer from Nebraska was a Wisner-Pilger High School student who died at a hospital just moments after falling to the ground during a track practice.
As of this writing, the cause of death remains unclear.
The teen’s school district has since issued a statement confirming Hunter’s death.
“It is with a very heavy heart that we can confirm that Hunter Palmer, senior at Wisner-Pilger Schools, has died,” the issue read.
“It is important for parents to check in on their children during this difficult time. Grief is very complicated and can affect each child differently.”
Hunter was not only a local track star but also a basketball and football player. He also played golf, baseball, and wrestling. Besides his success in multiple sports, Hunter participated in relay races and went on to beat his own high jump record just a day before his passing.
“Heaven gained a great young man. Our hearts are heavy and we are all suffering with the pain of the loss of Hunter Palmer,” Midland Football expressed in a Twitter statement.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Palmer family, friends and the Wisner-Pilger community. Our staff really enjoyed recruiting Hunter.
“He was a dynamic young man who was an absolute pleasure to be around. Hunter was someone so special and will never be forgotten. Hunter is gone way too soon. May you rest in eternal peace Hunter. We miss you already.”
Meanwhile, the obituary honoring the young man read: “He loved hanging out with friends, driving around, watching Netflix, lifting weights, singing, and drinking Dr. Pepper. His favorite teams were the Green Bay Packers and Clemson Tigers.”
Our thoughts remain with Hunter’s loved ones during this challenging time.
