Amber Heard’s friend took the witness stand in Johnny Depp’s defamation trial on Tuesday.
As the cross-examination by Depp’s legal team drew to an end, photographer Io Tillett Wright took the stand and told the court that Johnny’s ugly side would surface whenever the actor drank or did drugs.
Wright was a longtime friend of the couple until 2015 when he distanced himself from Depp but remained in touch with Heard.
In his testimony, Wright admitted that he had never seen Depp beat Heard and claimed the actor was “magical, friendly and kind” when sober.
However, the New York Times freelancer insisted that the actor would get “paranoid” and lash out at people around him when he drank or did drugs.
Wright further testified that he also saw Heard taking ecstasy, mushrooms, and cocaine during their many years of friendship.
As the photographer insisted, “alcohol would bring out a very ugly side” of Johnny who once allegedly told him that he won’t let his inner monster win.
“The monster will not win. I will not be that type of man. I don’t want to be that type of husband. I don’t want to hurt our Slim [Amber’s nickname],” Depp allegedly said.
Wright also recalled the couple’s wedding ceremony and revealed that the actor managed to stay sober. He claimed, however, that Depp told him he was free to punch Heard after getting married to her.
“We’re married. Now I can punch her in the face and nobody can do anything about it,” Depp allegedly said.
