A teenage girl was shot dead by an armed robber while working her shift at a Burger King.
19-year-old Kristal Bayron-Nieves was a hardworking young lady who was killed by a gunman while working her shift at the Burger King at 116th Street and Lexington Avenue in East Harlem, Manhattan.
According to the reports, the gunman, who has yet to be identified and arrested, entered the store at around 1 am on Sunday.
After punching the store manager, the gunman approached Kristal and pointed a gun at her head while demanding she hand over the cash from the register.
As an eyewitness reported according to the girl’s mother, Kristal gave the robber $100. While he initially appeared to try and walk out of the store, he suddenly turned around and shot the teenager.
After the shooting, the masked robber made a swift getaway. While Kristal was rushed to the hospital, she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
“She is only 19, and she has more than 50 homeless people sleeping in front of the store,” Kristal’s mother, Kristie Nieves, told the Post as she revealed that her daughter had feared for her safety while working in East Harlem.
“’Kristal said Friday, ‘I don’t want to go. I’m scared.’ I said, ‘You have to go and be responsible.’ At 10 pm I wake her up to go and tell her, ‘You have to go. You have to be responsible. You have to get a better life.’”
As the grieving mother’s friend, Nathalie Pagan, added, Nieves now feels guilty for waking up her daughter and encouraging her to go to work on the night she was shot dead.
Pagan also claimed that the gunman shot Kristal even after she had already given him the money from the register.
“So [the witness] says that the guy turns around and he comes back and shot her. That he turn around like he is going to leave, but he comes back and shoots her,” Pagan said.
“She’d done everything that he say. She give him the money and everything. That she didn’t even do nothing wrong.”
The case remains under investigation and the manhunt for the killer continues. Our thoughts are with Kristal’s family and friends during these challenging times.
