A 14-year-old girl from Bucha got pregnant after being assaulted by five Russian soldiers in Ukraine.
According to reports, the young girl plans to keep the baby after she was warned by doctors that she may not be able to have children again if she had an abortion.
Her heartbreaking story has been shared by Oleksandra Kvitko, a psychologist who works on the ombudsman’s hotline for psychological assistance.
Kvitko, who works with five teenagers who became pregnant after being assaulted by Russian troops, said that the 14-year-old Is now learning to accept her child.
He said that the youngest victim she’s working with is 10 years old.
Speaking to Radio Svoboda, Kvitko said: “Girls aged 14, 15, 16 are often raped. After the war, there will be many pregnant teenagers in Ukraine,”
Victims include women, young children, and men.
As of April 25, the ombudsman’s hotline had received reports of more than 100 cases of s*xual crimes in the Ukrainian territories attacked by Russian soldiers.
Ombudswoman Lyudmila Denisova told Radio Svoboda that 12 cases of forced pregnancy have been reported but she believes there are more unreported cases.
Oleksandra Matviychuk, the chairwoman of the Civil Liberties Center, took to Twitter on April 13 and wrote: “Ukrainian women who were r*ped by Russians and left to Poland cannot have abortions there.
“Under Polish law, abortion is allowed in case of r*pe, but there is no criminal case yet Psychologists in Poland are convincing her that a new life is wonderful. They destroys lives of both.”
She added: “We talked to our colleagues in Poland. They will conduct an information campaign so that victims of s*xual violence know to whom they can apply and how they can leave Poland if necessary.
“Because r*pe is the most hidden crime, we just don’t know everyone who needs help.”
