A six-year-old girl was stabbed to death alongside her mother during a horrific knife attack in Melbourne, Australia.
On Thursday night, a young girl was brutally attacked and stabbed alongside her mother at a Kellaway Crescent home in Mill Park.
The authorities rushed to the scene at around 8 pm only to find out that the woman had already passed away. While the young girl was rushed to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries on the following day.
At the scene, the officers also found a heavily wounded man who is believed to be the girl’s father and the husband of the deceased woman.
According to the reports, the man began injuring himself with his weapon after the police arrived at the family home.
As of this writing, the case remains under investigation, whereas the police have yet to fully question and charge the man.
“I believe at this point in time, and again, things need to be confirmed, but I believe that the male and female are husband and wife and the children are from that relationship,” Detective Inspector Dean Thomas said.
At the crime scene, the authorities also came across a 10-year-old girl believed to be the young victim’s sister. She was not injured during the attack.
“She was not physically injured so she’s currently in the care of the Department of Health … and she’s been speaking to police overnight,” Thomas said.
“It’s very difficult for her, she’s been through an absolutely terrible, traumatic incident and it’s really, really important that she’s provided with the care and support that she needs to navigate her way through this.”
On the same night, the city was rocked by another double-homicide after a senior man pulled out a gun and shot two people during a neighborly dispute in Mordialloc.
The shooting took place on McDonald Street where the suspect, who has since been arrested by the police, shot at a group of people believed to be his neighbors at around 9 pm.
While the suspect is currently being questioned, it remains unclear whether he has already been charged.
