The young girl who was locked in a hot school van for six hours has finally been released from the hospital after days of uncertainty.
3-year-old Nevaeh Austin was left fighting for her life after she was found unconscious in her seat six hours after she was picked up by Smileys Early Learning Centre school van.
Following several days in the hospital, however, it has finally been confirmed that the girl has survived the ordeal and has since been discharged from the hospital.
The incident took place in Rockhampton, Queensland, where the driver of the van and a staff member of the school allegedly picked up the child at her home in the morning.
After arriving at the center, the driver and the childcare worker allegedly exited the vehicle and locked it while Nevaeh was still inside.
For six hours, as the temperatures outside soared, the 3-year-old was left locked in the hot vehicle where she remained strapped to her seat.
When the girl was finally found by the school’s staff when they were preparing for an afternoon pick-up, she was already unconscious and in need of emergency treatment.
After being rushed to the hospital, the girl was reportedly in a stable but critical condition.
Since the incident, Smileys Early Learning Centre refused to speak out and sought legal advice instead.
As of this writing, the investigation remains ongoing and no charges have yet been laid against the business.
