The child died between Glendale and Hampton avenues in Milwaukee and was killed sometime between 8 am to 8 pm.  WISN 12 News reporter Courtney Sisk was at the scene and said the child was a girl and that the cause of death was not a shooting.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene to assist with the investigation and an autopsy is scheduled today.

The circumstances surrounding the victim’s death appear to be argument related and police said that she suffered blunt force trauma and died. Milwaukee Police have a person of interest in custody in relation to this incident.

Milwaukee police said they are called Thursday night regarding the incident and they are now investigating the case but don’t release any additional statement at this time.

This is the fifth homicide in Milwaukee since Tuesday and the fourth homicide of a child, under 18, in the county so far in 2022. Last year, child homicides made up 12% of Milwaukee’s homicides.

In 2020, over 141 homicide cases have been reported in the Milwaukee police department and so far, 84 have been cleared. The killers are still out there as 57 homicides are not yet solved.

The city clearance rate is 59.6%, a big difference from their 2017-2019 rate. It shrank this year which means the families of homicide victims are made to wait for justice.

Shane Allen and Temmy Lock also lose their children in the same case and still waiting for justice to be served for more than a decade.

While on FBI national rate last year, the city was rated on 61.4% and it is just a reminder that the clearance rate is not just a number, it is a father, daughter, and it’s the victims’ families who just want some answers on the authority. Child homicides made up 12% of Milwaukee’s homicides last year.

Milwaukee police said that they are investigating the said shooting incident and the death of the girl was a homicide. Tiana’s 47-year-old father was accused of handling a firearm that discharged and struck the girl, who died at a nearby hospital.

Mayor Cavalier Johnson of Milwaukee called the death “heartbreaking” saying: “Mistaken gunfire has extinguished another innocent life. Please put down the guns. If you have guns in your home, secure them with a trigger lock or in a safe. Never, never handle a gun near children.”
