Producers of a new movie revolving around the shocking story of Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie have been slammed for “exploiting” the tragedy for money.

Though it has been just over one year since 22-year-old vlogger Gabby Petito was murdered by her boyfriend and fiancé, Brian Laundrie, Lifetime is already preparing to release a documentary with what social media users branded as an appalling reenactment of the tragic story that made the headlines nation-wide.

The upcoming retelling of the shocking murder-suicide case comes a year after Petito’s body was discovered and strangulation was confirmed as the cause of death.

Following the murder of his fiancée, Laundrie took his own life, and his remains were later found alongside a note in which he attempted to justify his actions saying he killed his girlfriend out of pity.

Shortly after the murder story came to an end – or even while the investigation was still ongoing – Lifetime must have begun producing and filming the new movie, titled ‘The Gabby Petito Story’, considering they have already released a trailer and are preparing to air the film on October 1, 2022.

While some people are looking forward to finding out more about Gabby’s story from a different perspective, the makers of the film quickly came under fire with people branding the movie as disrespectful, disgusting, and sick.

“Gabby Petito hasn’t been dead a whole year yet and Lifetime already made a movie about her. We gotta shut down true crime culture,” one person wrote.

“I can’t believe Lifetime is already about to air a Gabby Petito movie. It JUST happened a year ago and they already planned, wrote, and filmed a movie?” another said.

A third suggested: “Am I the only one that thinks it’s entirely too soon to have a Gabby Petito movie on lifetime?”

Another wrote: “The fact that there’s a Gabby Petito Lifetime movie coming out a year after her death is so disgusting. Production probably started as the investigation was ongoing. I cannot fathom the disrespect. They should be ashamed.”
