Turkey and Syria were both struck by powerful magnitude earthquakes today that have left more than 10,000 people dead and thousands more injured.

Now, authorities claim there is a race against time to save those buried under the rubble as they could possibly freeze to death.

Sources from local media outlets are calling this one of the worst disasters in the history of the country where tremors were felt for nearly one minute.

Entire neighborhoods were flattened as tall skyscrapers were seen coming crashing down to the ground. Moreover, sources revealed how so many survivors were crushed to their death in their sleep, unknowing what had happened in their nation.

Heartbreaking images showed young children being rescued from under massive piles of rubble. And while some were alive, others were dead.

Meanwhile, experts claim the process of rescue is currently being hampered by extreme freezing conditions. And that is why after one entire day passes, the fear of so many others trapped beneath the rubble increases.

Statements released by the country’s government officials say they will not stop and hope to work faster than ever as the clock is ticking at a fast pace and there is only so much cold than citizens can withstand before they die of hypothermia.

Both countries are doing everything they can as the foreign community unites to help assist in the rescue efforts with aid in the form of financial assistance and human manpower.

Aftershocks of the earthquake were felt as far as Egypt, the Cyprus Islands, and even Lebanon. Meanwhile, in places like Italy, experts have even issued a warning about the potential likes of a tsunami striking soon and that’s why it is on alert.
