The father of the armed teenager who attempted to assassinate the Queen has broken his silence and condemned his son’s behavior.
On Christmas Day, a 19-year-old man identified as Jaswant Singh Chail scaled the spike fence surrounding Windsor Castle in an attempt to assassinate the Queen with his crossbow.
Though the teenager was arrested on castle grounds before he could reach the castle and the living quarters, it has since been questioned how the perpetrator could get so far without being detected. A major security review has since been taking place.
Following his son’s assassination attempt, the boy’s father, Jasbir Singh Chail, has broken his silence and told MailOnline that something has gone “horribly wrong” with his son.
He said: “Something’s gone horribly wrong with our son and we are trying to figure out what.
“We’ve not had a chance to speak to him but are trying to get him the help he needs. From our perspective, we are going through a difficult time. We are trying to resolve this issue and it’s not easy.”
Mr. Chail, who is a successful IT company director, lives with his family, including the teen’s 19-year-old sibling, in a $700,000 house in North Baddesley, Hampshire, England. Jaswant is believed to have had a comfortable upbringing in the middle-class neighborhood where his family is staying.
The attempted assassination came moments after the teenager uploaded a disturbing pre-recorded clip on Snapchat.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry for what I’ve done and what I will do. I will attempt to assassinate Elizabeth, Queen of the Royal Family. This is revenge for those who have died in the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre,” the 19-year-old said while referring to the 1919 massacre in which Brigadier-General R. E. H. Dyer and his soldiers surrounded and shot dead hundreds of protesters who gathered at the historic park of Jallianwala Bagh in India.
“It is also revenge for those who have been killed, humiliated and discriminated on because of their race. I’m an Indian Sikh, a Sith,” he added.
