A father has been branded as a hero after losing his life just moments after helping a family of ducks cross a busy street.
The unnamed Good Samaritan was seen parking his car near the intersection at Stanford Ranch Boulevard and Park Drive in Rocklin, California, before exiting his vehicle to help a stranded group of ducks cross the highway.
Unfortunately, the man was fatally struck by another vehicle operated by a 17-year-old female driver while assisting the bird family on Friday evening.
After the tragic collision, emergency responders attempted to save the man’s life to no avail. The police also confirmed that the teenager involved in the crash remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.
“He got out of the car, he was shooing the ducks everyone was clapping because he was being really nice,” 12-year-old William Wimsatt, who caught the act of kindness on camera, said in an interview with 3KCRA.
“He helped them get up on the curb because the baby duckies were having trouble.”
Recalling the shocking moment the man was hit by a passing vehicle, the young boy added: “All I remember is the sound and then him flying across the intersection, his shoes and one of his socks were right in front of our car.
“He was the only person to get out of the car and try and help them and probably the nicest person in the entire area. It’s not fair.”
Following the incident, William’s mom rushed out of her car to comfort the man’s children who witnessed the entire thing while waiting for their father in their car.
Meanwhile, the police confirmed that no arrests have been made as of this writing and that the investigation into the accident remains ongoing.
“The driver remained at the scene of the collision. Emergency first responders arrived to assist, however the man died at the scene. The Major Accident Investigation Team was activated and responded to the area,” the authorities say.
“No arrest was made, and the incident is still under investigation. We would like to extend our condolences to all involved in this tragic event.”
