According to the inquest, the man’s doctor failed to spot a tumor on the kidney they gave to the father of two during a kidney transplant.

Within the year following the botched transplant, Sidhu’s cancer had spread and he passed away in agony.

The inquest also revealed that organs from the same donor were used in two other transplants, whereas the recipients of the organs developed cancer shortly after the transplants.

“My husband trusted his doctors so much. How did they miss this?” Sidhu’s grieving wife, Tarjinder, expressed.

“He was just a normal husband. He wanted to have the operation to make his life better. It is really, really hard for me and our children now. All the time I think of him.”

As the inquest heard, medics only spotted a small growth in Sidhu’s body some four months after the procedure. While it was initially dismissed as a harmless cyst, it later turned out to be an aggressive form of cancer that derived from the cancerous kidney he had received months earlier.

A further scan also detected a 2.75-inch growth on the donated kidney.

“This death was due to a recognized but very rare complication of a planned transplant,” the coroner ruled after the man’s death.

“It must be so very hard for you to have had the initial happiness of a successful transplant to the terrible change of fortune in the latter part of last year.”

Speaking of the shocking turn of events that followed after the surgery, Sidhu’s brother, Harjinder Singh Sidhu, said: “Having to watch your brother die is torture. By the end he was unable to walk. I was having to carry him with my sister-in-law.

“My niece is really traumatized. It has changed her outlook on life, losing her father at this age. I just hope we can find out what went wrong so that no other family ever has to go through what we have.”
