A father has been found guilty of murder after he crushed his own daughter to death by running over her with his car twice.
44-year-old Nigel Malt ran over his daughter Lauren Malt, 19, outside her home in West Winch, Norfolk, where she lived with her mother and siblings.
Reports revealed that he threatened Lauren’s boyfriend with a crowbar before running over her body while ‘consumed with anger.’
Malt, who was estranged from his wife and children, then put her daughter’s body in the passenger seat and rushed her to a hospital where she was declared dead.
Andrew Jackson, prosecuting, described how Malt had an argument with his daughter and threatened her boyfriend with a crowbar before reversing his vehicle and “knocked over his daughter.”
“Having knocked her to the ground he then reversed his car over her.
“He stopped, then he drove the car forward again over her body. These actions killed Lauren Malt, and later examination of her body revealed bruising, lacerations and crushing injuries to her head, torso, arms and legs.”
Malt reportedly denied his daughter’s murder and claimed it was an accident. After a trial, he was found guilty of her murder.
Post-mortem examination recorded that Lauren died of severe injuries to her abdomen and chest.
Mr. Jackson also said that after the father “failed in his bid to inflict violence” on Ms. Malt’s boyfriend, “he was totally consumed with anger.”
Malt’s grieving wife, Karen Walt, had reported him to police last year for assaulting her. He was arrested but got out after paying bail.
“The defendant’s relationship with his family was broken and it was something he wasn’t prepared to accept,” the prosecutor said.
