A mother and her three children were shot dead in a shocking murder-suicide committed by the kids’ father.
37-year-old Tara Devina Ricker Milligan was inside her Elk Mills, Maryland home on Friday morning when she was shot dead by 39-year-old Marcus Edward Milligan.
According to the reports, the man pointed the gun at his three children, Finn, 8, Nora, 11, and Teresa, 14, after fatally shooting their mother.
All three kids were killed in the shooting.
After committing the quadruple murder, the father took his own life with the murder weapon.
When the police arrived at the family home at around 9.30 am on Friday, all five members of the family were dead.
While the investigation into the suspected murder-suicide remains ongoing, all evidence reportedly suggests Mr Milligan killed his wife and their children before taking his own life.
The killings come in the wake of the third death anniversary of Tara and Marcus’ youngest child, Conor, whom they lost to cancer three years ago.
“Somehow it’s been three whole years since we had to say goodbye to Conor,” the mother wrote in a tribute to her son on September 3.
“What wouldn’t I give for another perfect moment like this one, even if just for a heartbeat.”
As of this writing, the motive for the killings remains unconfirmed and it is unclear if Conor’s death anniversary played a role in the apparent murder-suicide.
“Our hearts are shattered. Teresa, Nora and Finn deserved to grow up. We grieve, too, for Tara’s husband, Marc,” Aislinn Ricker Mellor, Tara’s sister, expressed.
“Mental health is so important and so difficult to navigate and understand.”
Aislinn added: “We know Tara is having a beautiful reunion with her precious little Conor, and while we ache for them here on Earth, we know they are at peace and with our Savior.”
