On Tuesday, an unnamed Virginia dad found his 18-month-old son lifeless in the back of his car after forgetting the child in the overheated vehicle.

According to the reports, the father left for work in the morning only to forget to drop his son at daycare before reaching his destination.

Once at his workplace, the man locked the vehicle, leaving the baby trapped inside as the temperatures began rising.

After the 18-month-old’s daycare informed the family that the child failed to show up in the morning, the father presumably found his baby dead in his car.

The police later responded to the family’s home after they alerted the authorities and said the toddler’s father had made suicidal statements.

“Upon their arrival, they located the people in the driveway with an open door with an empty child seat in the vehicle. As they made entry into the residence, they found a deceased 18-month-old,” Chesterfield Police Lt. Col. Christopher Hensley said.

“Our hearts go out to the family and friends that are going to deal with this, but we would be remiss in not taking the opportunity for people to take this moment and realize how important it is to obviously check your vehicles,” Hensley added.
